Bruce wins award from Mayor of Havant


Long serving and well known Havant and East Hampshire Mind volunteer Bruce Hodgkins received a well-deserved lifetime achievement award from the Mayor of Havant yesterday.

The celebration of volunteering event was hosted by Community First and the Mayor of Havant on Wednesday 25th March. It recognised the volunteering contribution to the local community across Havant Borough. The event took place at The Public Service Plaza where volunteers were presented with Certificates from The Mayor of Havant, Cllr Marjorie Smallcorn.

This year The Mayor Cllr Marjorie Smallcorn presented a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Bruce Hodgkins in recognition of his more than 20 years’ service. Wellbeing manager Jakki Barfoot made a speech at the event reflecting the appreciation of both staff and the service users that Bruce has supported over the years. He was cited as an inspirational character. A point observed by the Mayor herself who said she was privileged to make the special award on behalf of the borough.  

A host of volunteers were nominated by organisations from across the Havant area with people being recognised from community groups, children and young people, heritage, older people, churches, colleges, families, disability groups, environmental, and the police."
