I joined Havant and East Hants Mind in 2014. I have always worked in community development and public health roles, mostly in the voluntary sector. However, I had never worked in an area of mental health speciality before I started this role.
At the interview I was made to feel very welcome, we discussed the need for diversity and strategic innovation and how we might make the most of emerging opportunities. Havant and East Hants Mind valued the fresh perspectives and experience I was able to bring.
Having started working at HEH Mind I quickly saw the stark reality of how chronic underfunding of mental health services in every sector had affected people over last 30 years and the vital role the charity was playing in trying to fill so many gaps.
However, I arrived at a time when public attitudes were beginning to change, with mental health becoming an increasingly urgent social injustice issue. During the years I have been at HEH Mind the charity has continued to grow, and I have not looked back. I am proud to be associated with the charity, and our efforts to grow the support offered to local people.
I am supported by enthusiastic and trustworthy people across the charity; allowing me to grow, change, invent, to try and to succeed in so many ways. Our altruistic staff and volunteers, who give so much and are changing and saving lives, inspire me every day.
I would highly recommend Havant and East Hants Mind as an employer and as part of a rewarding and exciting career opportunity that sits comfortably with values and aspirations at such an exciting time of possibilities.
I have always known I wanted to work in the charity sector and to be able to give back to society. Having studied Charity Marketing at University over 15 years ago, I have since had a variety of roles at different charities.
I was fully supported in my role when I joined HEH Mind as an Administrative Volunteer. I had previously taken some time away from work due to ill health and so the support and opportunities at HEH Mind really helped my confidence and self-esteem.
When an opportunity to apply for a paid administrative role became available, I was able to utilise my volunteer experience, along with my previous role at The National Autistic Society to support my application, which I am delighted to say was successful.
We have a super team at HEH Mind, everyone is supportive. Not only is HEH Mind into wellbeing for clients, but also for our staff and volunteers.
It is a great charity to work for and over the years I have seen the charity grow and help even more people in the local community. I really enjoy my work at HEH Mind and I have met some amazing people here. Working at HEH Mind has helped my personal and professional development and it continues to be a source of pride to be an employee at HEH Mind.
