Local Artist Hosts Exhibition in aid of HEH Mind

Mark Kellett is a contemporary artist whose work spans a deeply personal and evocative exploration of his life’s journey. This solo exhibition presents a timeline of Kellett’s experiences, focusing on the mental health challenges he has faced and overcome. His art serves as a visual diary, chronicling moments of intense emotional struggle, healing, and self-reflection. Each piece in the exhibition invites viewers to delve into the complex layers of Kellett’s psyche, with his unique style capturing the rawness and vulnerability of his lived experience.

Mark Kellett’s life has been marked by deep emotional and psychological challenges, including two major breakdowns that significantly impacted him. These episodes could have stemmed from intense stress, personal struggles, or a combination of both. Mark has also exhibited traits commonly associated with bipolar disorder, including periods of mania and depression.

During manic phases, he may have experienced elevated energy, heightened creativity, or impulsive behaviour, giving the impression of extreme confidence or even invincibility. These phases, while productive at times, can also be destabilizing and lead to decisions or actions that, in hindsight, seem irrational or risky. On the other hand, depressive episodes would have brought periods of intense low mood, fatigue, and a sense of hopelessness, making even basic daily activities feel overwhelming.

These cyclical emotional states likely contributed to the major breakdowns Mark experienced, pushing him to a point where managing everyday life became difficult. However, surviving these episodes and working through the accompanying mental health challenges speaks to his resilience. It’s possible that through therapy, medication, or other forms of support, Mark has found ways to manage his mental health better in recent years.

Mark’s journey with mental health is likely ongoing, and while he may now seem to have things together, his past struggles with bipolar tendencies and breakdowns are an integral part of his story. His ability to push forward despite these challenges reflects his strength and determination.

Mark’s exhibition is free to visit and will be open Thursday 11th October to Sunday 13th October at the Round Tower, Portsmouth.
